PRESS RELEASE
European Generic Medicines Association of which the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Turkey is a member, started in Istanbul on the 14th of June. The opening speech at the conference which was attended by 450 participants from many different countries, was done by Ministry of Health Undersecretary Dr. Orhan Gümrükçüoğlu. At the Conference subjects such as the current trends in the world and European generic pharmaceuticals markets and the latest developments in intellectual properties, which are of great interest to the sector, are discussed. The Conference is also followed by prominent press organizations in the health sector such as Generic Bulletin and Scrip.
IEIS Chairman Bülent Eczacıbaşı, who presented a speech during the opening of the Conference said, “As the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Turkey, we are very pleased that the
European Generic Medicines Association 13th Annual Conference is taking place in Istanbul. The Meeting being held in Turkey is very significant in terms of the Turkish generic pharmaceuticals industry becoming known to the world and for this subject to be brought to the agenda. In the Conference we will find the opportunity to learn about issues that closely concern Turkey, such as the incentive policies being applied to popularize generic pharmaceuticals use and the perspectives of different countries."
Eczacıbaşı, who pointed out that due to the extra value added to the health system by generic pharmaceuticals, their use is supported in many countries through a variety of applications, added: "With the practice of incentive models that are suitable to our pharmaceutical industry structure and the conditions of our country we believe that the savings achieved by using generic pharmaceuticals will increase and the competitive edge of our industry will excel. If our country can make use of great advantages such as a developed generic pharmaceuticals market, high production capacity, a widespread population and the European Union accession period and overcome problems concerning regulation,
Turkey can become an important player in the expanding world generic pharmaceuticals market".
During the opening session of the conference EGA General Director Greg Perry, Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Turkey Chairman Bülent Eczacıbaşı, Ministry of Health Undersecretary Dr. Orhan Gümrükçüoğlu, IMS Health European Strategic Unions Deputy Chairman Per Troein and EGA Chairman Emile Loof made speeches.
